The 2011 Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival promises to be another exceptional event and another exceptional opportunity for FNGLA to showcase the industry and Florida's gardening offerings.
In FNGLA's 13th year of participation, the FNGLA garden will once again utilize the Tuscan theme. The garden will be strikingly similar to last year's garden as last year's was a huge area of interest for festival attendees. Notable differences will include a loquat grove in place of an olive grove; several fruiting olive trees; and considerable more color throughout the garden. The farm house, citrus grove, vertical garden and the focus on sustainable education will remain vital elements of the garden area. This garden will literally have something for everyone; from passionate gardener to even those with the most minimal of gardening interests!
The 2011 Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival will kick-off its opening day celebration just as Spring makes its seasonal entrance, March 2. The festival will run for its regular 10 1/2-week duration and will close on Sunday, May 15. While FNGLA sees great value in educating the gardening consumers of tomorrow, we also are looking to ramp up enthusiasm today--and help create a demand for Florida's products.
VOLUNTEER IN THE GARDEN!
FNGLA is once again seeking FNGLA members and FNGLA certified professionals to serve as garden hosts and to assist park guests for the opening day and then each Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the festival: March 2 - May 15, 2011. Volunteers can pick from two different 3-hour shifts: 12:00 - 3:00 pm or from 3:00 - 6:00 pm. While we are able to allow gardening qualified friends and spouses to serve as FNGLA volunteers, they must be able to fulfill the duties serving as a host answering gardening questions and interacting with park guests. We cannot allow children to participate. All FNGLA volunteers gain entrance to the park for the day of their commitment to the FNGLA Garden, but are free to enjoy Epcot and the festival before and after their volunteer time, until the park closes for the evening. FNGLA Certified volunteers will also receive 2 CEU points for their service.
Don't delay in coordinating your preferred time slots as volunteers will be accepted for Opening Day and each extended weekend on a first-come, first-served basis. Access the volunteer form to sign-up or contact Amy DiBella
at FNGLA for date availability. Additional garden details and a volunteer packet will be available online as the festival's opening approaches. Volunteers are required to adhere to general attire and behavior practices while serving in the garden.
MORE ABOUT FNGLA's THE ART OF LIVING GREEN GARDEN
FNGLA's 2011 "The Art of Living Green" will be located directly off "the loop" of the international showcase between Morocco and France - the same premier site of the last two years of gardens. With the 2011 garden, FNGLA hopes to showcase plants as part of a sustainable lifestyle, and not simply as ornamental elements of a home. An estimated 2.4 million guests are expected to visit Epcot during the festival which includes several holidays. The FNGLA garden area is always a heavily attended garden area within the festival. FNGLA is delighted to partner with the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival to spotlight plants as an everyday enjoyment, a family-centered activity and part of the solution for our sustainability effort. For specific program questions, contact the FNGLA office or send an e-mail to FNGLA's Director of Public Relations and Marketing, Jennifer Nelis at jnelis@fngla.org
